Dream big, fear less

Dream big, fear less – an essential cornerstone of DJM Personnel

In the words of Walt Disney, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

To dream big and fear less is about the belief you can achieve big things, if you believe you can.

We know big dreams don’t come easy and attaining them certainly doesn’t happen overnight. Let’s face it—if everyone could snap their fingers and make their dreams come true, they would. So the question is: ‘how can you realise your dreams?’ Here’s what we know.

The first rule of thumb is to identify what your dreams actually are.

When we began thinking of starting the DJM business, we started with a grand vision of what we wanted. Our dream was to build a business that would make a difference to people’s lives. This was our big dream.  This dream really motivated us. It was the reason we got up really early in the morning and the reason we worked late at night. We kept crystal clear focus on this, believing we could make a difference.

If the thought of dreaming big scares you, take a moment to ask yourself why: Is it because you might fail? That you might appear foolish to others? That you didn’t succeed? That you aimed too high?

Whatever your response may be, being afraid to dream big just because you might fail is a bit like saying, “It’s best not to swallow my coffee for fear I might choke.”

Failure is essential to success. Why? It not only helps build character but also garners self-introspection, a skill highly necessary for any sort of substantial growth.

Even Thomas Edison echoed this sentiment when he said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up.”

It takes time and a lot of patience but don’t stop dreaming just because it gets tough. Keep your ‘eye on the prize’, manage your fear and focus on how to attain that ‘prize’ little by little, day by day.

Life is an adventure. Attaining your dreams is that adventure.

One of our favourite writers Eleanor Roosevelt says:

“I believe that anyone can conquer fear by doing the things he/she fears doing.Do not stop thinking of life as an adventure. You have no security unless you can live bravely, excitingly, imaginatively; unless you can choose a challenge instead of competence.”
